West Africa

Many former French colonies make up the region. The area sees the meeting of the Islamic and Christian faiths, with traditional beliefs mixed in.

Most West African states are members of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States).

The West African CFA franc is shared by eight countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Sénégal and Togo).
